"Dai" is a Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway "7F" 2-8-0, originally brought to the Dark Railway on trial in 1961.
He was lent to the Railway by his Owner, Rhys Davies, to haul heavy coal traffic over the line.
He is a kind engine, but is often teased by his colleagues because of how old he is.
Never the less, he has proven to many engines that, just because he is old, doesn't mean he is unreliable.
He also loves to tell stories about his various experiences on the S&DJR, impressing several engines with his tales.
He also proved his worth on several occaisions, even being asked to haul coaches during his time in the South!
He got on well with everyone the first time he visited, except for Dave, who teased him something rotten.
However, Dave got his comeuppance, being humiliated and rescued by Dai several times on his first visit.
